Suns Baseball Closes Out Regular Season with Sweep Over Richland

The CVC Baseball Team wrapped up their 2017 regular season with a three-game Metro Athletic Conference series sweep against the Richland Thunderducks. The Suns finish the regular season with a conference record of 19-11, besting their 2016 MAC record by 11 games.

In game one against RLC, CVC overcame a 4-2 deficit late to rally to a 9-5 victory. Shannon Broussard earned his tenth win from the mound, tossing six strikeouts. J.J. Veloz Jr. went 3-5 at the plate, notching four runs. Alex Garcia and Jesus Payan each had a team-high three RBIs.

Cedar Valley mounted another comeback in the second game of the series. Falling behind 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning, the Suns exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. CVC held off RLC, 9-7. Tylor Frailey had three runs, while J. Payan and Veloz each had three hits. Rivera had a team-high three RBIs. Skyler White locked down the win from the mound, with Luis Payan earning the save.

Points were at a premium in game three, with the Suns closing out the series with a 3-2 win over the Thunderducks. Broussard had two runs, while three Suns each turned in a RBI (Samuel Marianos, Johnny Rojo, Veloz). Alex Rivera was awarded the win, while Austin Nicholson earned the save.

The Suns will now await the announcement of their opponent for the NJCAA District C Regional Tournament.
